OAJ has issued a strike warning in the universities of applied sciences sector, YTN continues negotiations

You can find the latest information on the negotiation situation here.

YTN, OAJ and Sivista have been negotiating a collective agreement for universities of applied sciences since 30 January 2026. The current agreement is valid until 31 March 2026. On 23 March 2026, OAJ’s negotiators announced that they would end the negotiations, but YTN and Sivista are still seeking a solution through negotiations.

OAJ has issued a strike warning

In the negotiations, OAJ, which represents teachers, has issued a strike warning on 24 March 2026. The reason for the strike warning is a proposal submitted by Sivista, under which the salary of some teachers at universities of applied sciences would be reduced. OAJ’s strike warning applies to both teaching staff and expert and support staff. If implemented, the industrial action would concern Metropolia University of Applied Sciences Ltd and would involve a one-day strike on Wednesday, 8 April 2026.

YTN has not issued a strike warning

YTN has not issued a strike warning, and members of YTN’s affiliated unions are therefore not obligated to participate in industrial actions. YTN considers that a solution could still be found through negotiations. YTN’s principle is to continue negotiations until the end of the agreement period and only thereafter, if necessary, consider alternative courses of action. If YTN decides to take its own industrial action measures, we will inform you separately.

Any questions regarding the industrial action declared by OAJ may be sent to the negotiation organisation’s duty email at lakko@ytn.fi. At this stage, however, we primarily encourage you to wait for more detailed instructions from YTN, which we will send during the coming week.
