Technology Industry Employers of Finland’s, The Federation of Professional and Managerial Staff YTN’s and the Association of IT Service Sector Employees’ working group aiming to draft guidelines on the transition to a five-day holiday period calculation requested a statement from the Labour Concil to evaluate, if the transition is possible within the framework of the Annual Holidays Act. In its statement the Labor Council states that the model proposed by the working group for switching to a five-day holiday calculation is not fully in accordance with the Annual Holidays Act.

The working group assessed the Labour Council’s statement on April 16, 2024. In its meeting, the working group concluded that based on the Labour Council’s statement, it does not have the necessary prerequisites to give guidelines on the transition to a five-day holiday period calculation.

Employers that follow the five-day holiday calculation must ensure that the practice does not shorten the length of leave earned by the employee in accordance with the Annual Leave Act.
