The Federation of Professional and Managerial Staff YTN has issued a new strike warning to selected companies in the technology industry for two consecutive Fridays: 28 March and 4 April. The strike days are a continuation of the Friday strikes that started on the last day of February.
The number of companies and senior salaried employees participating in the strikes is increasing. 55 separately named companies in the technology industry as well as 25,000 senior salaried employees will take part in the two new strike days.
In addition, a so-called ban on flexible working is in force in the entire branch. This means that senior salaried employees will not work flexitime hours or travel for work in their free time.
“We are sad to be making the new decision on industrial action, but there is no other choice. The negotiations that have lasted for months and the conciliation of the labour dispute that has lasted for weeks have made it clear that the solutions deemed suitable for other personnel groups in the branch are too much and unreasonable for senior salaried employees according to the employer. The general increase is making things more difficult,” says Samu Salo, Chairman of YTN.
“It’s hard to believe that employers don’t value senior salaried employees and the work they do, but this is the message one inevitably gets from their actions and attitude,” Salo continues.
In the negotiations that began last year in September, YTN announced that it is seeking a salary settlement that develops purchasing power and focuses on general increases for its members working in the technology industry contract branch.
Teemu Hankamäki, Negotiation Manager of YTN, emphasises that the negotiation organisation has wished to reach an agreement through negotiations.
“So far, our efforts have not produced any results and we have not been heard. I hope that this second warning will be heard and that we will reach a fair solution in the conciliation of the labour dispute,” says Hankamäki. “Senior salaried employees have a lot of understanding for local agreements on salary increases at the company level, but if the agreements are not successful, the general increase guaranteed by the collective agreement is important for senior salaried employees, just as it is for other personnel groups,” says Hankamäki.

In terms of the people represented, the collective agreement of YTN’s technology industry is Finland’s second largest industrial collective agreement. It applies to more than 60,000 senior salaried employees and experts working in the industry. YTN is the largest contractual partner of the Technology Industry Employers of Finland when all three agreements between the organisations are combined.
